SCI-Rotary Partnerships Panelist Rick Burns
Founder and President of Karadah Project International


Rick Burns is an Army veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and founder of Karadah Project International, an Iowa nonprofit corporation committed to building sustainable and long-term solutions in partnership with the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. He is a member of the Council Bluffs Iowa Sister Cities Association board of directors and serves as the Afghanistan Country Representative for Sister Cities International. The US Department of State awarded its 2018 Citizen Diplomacy award to Rick and other members of the Council Bluffs Sister Cities board of directors for their citizen diplomacy efforts in such insecure areas as Siberia, Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He continues to work with other cities interested in finding partnerships with cities in Afghanistan and Iraq. Rick is expanding the reach and effectiveness of projects in sister cities through partnerships with Rotary International and other civic organizations. He is an active member of the Atlantic (Iowa) and the Leavenworth (Kansas) Rotary clubs and has also leveraged the support of clubs in Chicago, Iowa, and Washington, D.C. in support of both large and small projects in partner cities.
